Bacterial Vaginosis
|
Bacterial vaginosis is an abnormal vaginal condition that is determined by vaginal discharge. The condition results from an overgrowth of normal bacteria in the vagina. Many moons ago this condition was called Gardnerella vaginitis after the bacterium that was thought to cause the condition. However, now namely, bacterial vaginosis reflects recent studies establishing that there are a number of different types of bacteria that naturally live in or around the vaginal area. No matter how much you bathe and wash sometimes it is hard to ease and rid the symptoms of an infection without prescribed medication from your doctor or nurse. The Gardnerella organism is not the instigator which causes the symptoms. When these multiple species of bacteria become imbalanced - a woman can have a vaginal discharge that is associated with a foul odour. Foul smelling odours is often explained by many women as to being a strong fishy smell.
It can be confusing at times, but to clear matters, "bacterial vaginosis" is not passed on through having sex and is not a dangerous condition, however it causes symptoms of discomfort for the sufferer. If you notice any difference in the colour or amount of vaginal discharge loss, then your condition needs to be evaluated by a doctor so that if any serious infections are present they can then be excluded.
For all concerned women the signs you need to look out for if bacterial vaginosis is the problem is changes in vaginal discharge and odour. The amount of vaginal discharge that is considered normal varies in each female species. It is up to your doctor to evaluate what degree of vaginal discharge is normal or abnormal for a particular woman. This is a condition that can go unnoticed by some women but for those who experience the condition will notice an unpleasant fishy odour with greyish white vaginal discharge. Never be embarrassed to talk your problems through with your GP. It is always best to sort out any medical issues and concerns sooner than later.
