  Ear Inflammation

It is normally inflammation of the ear that is the common cause behind the build up of wax. Treatment for Inflammation of the ear is generally straightforward with the right diagnosis. If the patient is found to have a more serious ear infection then this will have been picked up and diagnosed by your doctor – where he or she will have examined the infected ear with a special instrument. Before buying over the counter medication make sure you speak to the pharmacist about what treatments are best for your ailment.

Both adults and children produce ear wax. Inflammation of the ear is suffered by children also. You will find that the wax can dislodge moving outward along the ear canal prompted by repetitive movements such as chewing gum and yawning. Temporary loss of hearing in some cases can be remedied because one of the most common causes for this happening is, due to wax blockage. Signs or symptoms that indicate this condition is pain, discomfort, a feeling that the ear is blocked or a slow process of hearing loss.

Treatment or medication for this problem can often be unblocked using ear drops. However if the problem is due to inflammation of the ear then other methods may well be used to clear up any infections. If stagnant wax remains after treatment a doctor may need to syringe the ears to remove the blockage. Mild hearing loss can be frustrating, but you must never poke or prod the ear.

Inflammation of the outer ear canal is normally referred to in medical terms as “Otitis externa” The outer ear canal is the skin-lined canal which leads into the ear as far as the ear drum. If an inflammation is found to be present at the time of an ear examination then the cause could be an infection. It is often triggered by excess moisture or trauma. This condition is also referred to as swimmer’s ear or tropical ear. A patient suffering from this will find the pain worsens when chewing. They may even notice a smelly discharge from the ear along with the urge to itch the area.

Another cause of inflammation of the ear is, if a foreign body is found in the outer ear canal. This can be anything from a small bug, the tip of a cotton bud or as a result of a child putting objects in their ears. Be extra careful with children and toys that contain tiny particles. Kids are always tempted to fill a hole whether it is one in the wall or that of an orifice on the face. Never at any time prod the ear to dislodge an unknown object, seek medical help right away.
