Should I be worried about my urine having a strong smell? You are not alone if you suffer from having a smelly urine release every time you use the toilet. Urine in general does have an odour of one we all recognize to that of like chlorine smell, however if it is more strong and darker in colouring than of what we call a normal passing of water then there may be a cause to why.
Smelly Urine - Urinary tract infections are as common as to being determined for the condition, Male and female acquire at least one infection in their lives. In fact, an estimated 50% to 80% of women develop urinary tract infections sometime during their lifetime. It estimates that from 20% to 50% of women will have recurrent infection. Women are more prone to develop the infection because of their anatomy. The distance between the bladder and the urethral opening is relatively short in women, and this opening is in close proximity to the vagina and rectum, which makes it easy for bacteria to move from one place to another. In men, the urethral tube is longer and its opening is further from the rectum. This is resulting in a lower frequency of urinary tract infections.
A urinary tract infection can be treated and cured just like that of most other infections. In most cases of an infection being present you will find that your doctor will prescribe a course of antibiotics. What you need to remember is that each patient and the severity of their condition will determine the treatments advised.
As more often than not a smelly urine complaint is drawn towards an infection being present.
A urinary tract infection, shorter UTI, also refers to cystitis. This infection occurs when bacteria enter the urinary tract and cause tissue damage in the urethra, bladder, or kidneys.. Just like any other health condition there either will be a cause -so prevention is a great deterrent for keeping some illnesses etc at bay
The cause’s behind a urinary tract infection which show urine changes in colour (blood) and smell is because bacteria such as Escherichia coli travel into the urethra, bladder, and sometimes the kidneys. Sexually transmitted infections such as trichomoniasis and Chlamydia can cause urinary tract infections. Stress, weak immune system, eating an unbalanced diet and damaging the urethra in childbirth or surgery can predispose person to getting urinary tract infections.
UTI’s symptoms are painful and discomforting i.e. severe burning sensation during urination, habitual urge to pee with little wee passed. It is common presence of blood in the urine and strong odor the first time you urinate in the morning. If the infection is serious, then fever symptoms take hold along with vomiting and pains in the mid- to lower back. Pain is the normally the result of infection in the kidneys.
Smelly urine does not necessarily indicate that urinary tract infection is the cause; however it is in your best interest to have your doctor check you over for fear that your smelly urine is prompted by another cause.
