Toenail Fungus

Toenail fungus: Do toes smell? Yes like most parts of the body toes can smell, mainly due to an infection. Unpleasant odours can rise through infections regardless of which part of the body we talk of.

Toenail fungus is also called onychomycosis, and is a common condition that destroys the toenail. Fungal infection in the toenail can be difficult to cure, however treatments today are affectively bettering conditions as such. Fungus thrives in the dark and having your feet in shoes that are closed in can allow fungus to develop in the toes. Toenail fungus grows in the nail bed, where the toenail meets the skin.

Symptoms are of discoloured nails (yellow or brown) or a foul smell coming from under the toenail, on the side, tip and pain, - these are sure signs to say that a fungal infection maybe the cause.(Have a doctor determine this) Noticeable signs are when the toes become painful and the toenails have thickened. Toenail fungus is treatable but if left untreated can only but worsen the condition. Seek the care of your physician or podiatrist as soon as possible to prevent losing the toenail. Toenail fungus grows slowly and is not contagious.

Anti-Fungal medications usually suppress the infection. Anti-fungal creams can be effective in the early stages of a toenail fungus but if you have left the fungus untreated then the anti-fungal cream might not be able to reach the nail bed.

Help prevent toenail fungus by keeping the hygiene of your feet in good condition, keep your feet dry, and avoid closed shoes so that your feet and toes can breathe. This will also help prevent other odours occurring where you will have to have a case of smelly feet treated. Treatment may begin with your doctor removing a portion of the infected area with clippers or dissolve the infected area by bifonazole.

If the infection is a relatively of minute existence then your doctor may prescribe medicated nail polish containing amorolfine. The nail polish is normally applied twice a week until the nail is free from infection or toenail fungus. If the infection has spread into a larger area or onto several nails, your doctor may prescribe anti-fungal oral medication that will need to be taken consistently over three months in order to ultimately rid yourself completely of the toenail fungus. Never allow a problem like this to have time to fester because further complications can set in, therefore preventing the curing process to happen in the time normally expected in treating toenail fungus..
